Andrew Golightly, a Northland Lawyer has been approved and appointed by the Archbishop of Canterbury in England as a Notary Public.

A Notary Public is a Senior Lawyer who officially can witness signatures on legal documents, collect sworn statements, administer oaths and certify the authenticity of legal documents usually for use overseas. They verify the validity of documents and the identity of the person signing a document under New Zealand Law as well as International Law. This can include documents such as powers of attorney, business contracts, medical documents, transfers of land, estate documents, Court documents or simply providing certified copies of documents such as certificates of birth, death, marriage, decrees and qualifications.

His appointment follows the footsteps of his father John Golightly who was appointed as a Notary Public in 1989.

Andrew Golightly said “The appointment was timely given the much anticipated influx of international visitors for the Rugby World Cup later this year. I look forward to being of service to those visitors and also our much valued clients”. Andrew Golightly is the Chairman of the Northland Rugby Union.

He leads the Commercial and Property Team at Marsden Woods Inskip & Smith, Lawyers, Whangarei and is in partnership with Michael Smith who holds the Crown Solicitor Warrant for Northland.

For further information please contact Andrew Golightly on 021 430 700.

On Friday 15 October 2010 a small delegation from Marsden Woods won a glorious victory for provincial law firms around the world. For the first time in the history of the event, the Meredith Connell quiz title was claimed by a team of outsiders. Referred to patronisingly as the “country cousins”, the intellectual capability of the office of the Crown Solicitor for Northland was initially questioned by the reigning captain of the incumbent team. However, after a long and liquid quiz the jeers from the audience were set aside and a new champion team emerged.

The result serves as a timely reminder that even as the seams of our judicial system are stretched, justice is able to be served. Marsden Woods would like to thank the hosts, Meredith Connell, for an outstanding night. We look forward to defending the mug next year.
